BMW has confirmed that the company’s latest X5 cars, the 7 Series and X5 xDrive30, will be equipped with a software-enabled oil pressure sensors that can detect whether a driver is using too much or too little oil.

The BMW i8 xDrive60 has already been equipped with sensors to warn of the presence of oil, but BMW has now revealed that the i8 will also be equipped to detect when a driver’s oil pressure is above the prescribed maximum, and that its software will also allow the system to be switched off automatically.BMW has also confirmed that it has now received reports of similar problems with the BMW i7 xDrive35.
